BMX and Skateboarding at the Olympics – How the Skatepark Made It to Tokyo 0

Can riding rails, hitting jumps, and cruising the skatepark turn you into an Olympian?

Actually... yes! 💪

So, when and where did extreme sports get their Olympic moment?

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

BMX racing on 20-inch wheels has been part of the Olympics since 2008. But it wasn’t until Tokyo 2020 that BMX freestyle and skateboarding made their Olympic debut as official disciplines.

So next time your parents say you’re wasting time at the skatepark or in the street, just show them this article. 🤪

Skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics

Skaters competed in two categories, split into men and women: park and street. One of the competitors was Amelia Brodka, a Polish skater living in the USA.

Each rider had 45 seconds to show their best skills. Judges scored based on flow, tricks, speed, height, and creativity.
