What is the ICS compression system?
ICS (Inverted Compression System) uses a long bolt that runs inside the fork and tightens from the top of the handlebar. It’s lightweight and simple, which is why many early pro scooters used it.
Do ICS handlebars need a slit?
Yes. Like IHC and HIC, ICS requires a slit at the bottom of the bar so the clamp can compress the fork properly.
Can I run ICS bars on a fork made for IHC or SCS?
No. The fork must also be designed for ICS. Each compression system needs matching parts: bar, fork, and clamp.
Are ICS handlebars good for modern street or park riding?
They work, but ICS is older and less common today. Riders who want the lightest setup and simple maintenance still like it, but most new completes use IHC, HIC, or SCS for easier upgrades.
Which materials are best for ICS handlebars?
4130 Cro-Mo steel is the standard for strength and control. Aluminum ICS bars are rare and mainly for lightweight park builds.
Can I cut or shorten ICS bars?
Yes, you can shorten them for height, but you must cut a fresh slit afterwards and keep the ends square for a secure clamp.
How often should I tighten the ICS bolt?
Check it after heavy sessions or if you feel bar play. Use a long Allen key through the top cap to keep the headset snug.
