You need a single speed chain, usually 1/8 inch. Both standard and half link versions work for freestyle. Do not use multi speed chains because they are narrower and not designed for BMX tricks.
A half link chain lets you adjust wheel position more precisely which helps when tensioning the chain. It is usually a bit heavier. A standard chain is lighter and simpler but does not offer the same fine adjustment.
Chains come long enough for any BMX frame. You cut it to the correct length based on your gear ratio and wheel position. A chain tool makes this easy.
